Image via ccsi.tvRemote support is great. No matter the weather, I can service whomever’s computer  through the power of the internet. Although remote support is a great tool for a computer geek like myself, there are some things that I cannot do online. Here are the pros and cons of remote computer support:

Pros

  • Fast computer support for a huge amount of computer issues, including:
    • Software Installation
    • Tune-up/Clean-up
    • Spyware Removal
    • Virus Removal(depending on the severity)
    • Email Setup
    • Windows Updates
    • New Computer Setup
    • Troubleshooting crashes/errors
  • Convenience
    • No need to take your computer anywhere to be fixed, i.e. GeekSquad.
    • No need to have a stranger come into your home to fix your PC.
    • No need to have to take the day off of work to wait for a computer technician.
  • Free Diagnosis
    • What if you don’t know what’s wrong with your computer? I can hop into your PC for free and check it out for you within seconds!
  • Cost
    • Since repairs are done online, you won’t be charged a fee for a technician to travel to your home, and(at least me personally) will never charge you for a check-up online.
    • I charge a flat-rate, so no need to worry about hourly rates!

Cons

  • Internet
    • You must have an active high-speed internet connection in order to receive remote support. Sometimes viruses will hinder you from going online.
    • I cannot troubleshoot internet connection problems through remote support.
  • Viruses
    • If your computer has a very bad virus problem, remote support may not work. Some viruses have to be removed before Windows loads up.
    • It is not recommended to remove certain viruses while having an active internet connection since it may threaten your private information on your PC.
  • Hardware Issues
    • It is not possible to repair hardware issues through remote support. So if something internally is going on in your computer, you will have to take it in to a computer repair shop. If you live in South Florida, I can fix many internal issues in desktop PCs.

The Bottom Line

Remote support is perfect for the majority of tech support issues you are experiencing with your PC. As long as you can successfully connect to the internet, you can get your computer fixed! There are certain things that cannot be fixed through remote support, like internet connections or hardware issues, but even then you now know you have a computer geek that can help you at least over the phone! :-)
